The Aftermath...

By: The Eye & Whisperer

The winds of change have been blowing in Ankhet. The Riven dominion, soundly defeated without contest by Jefe, has risen to prominence in the wake of his downfall. Since coming to power, Euplicitous Aerophram (N: Riven) has engaged in a campaign to utterly oppress or erase Giorgioh’s legacy. As a backdrop, Ankhet began experiencing a flurry of new disciples. Among these, Chopstix quickly gained notice for his broken English. His messages, frequently unintelligible, gained the ire of several disciples, but soon the benevolent overlord himself, Aerophram, took action. After several days of silences and ostracisms, Chopstix anointed to Se7en and began posting normally. End of story? Not by a long shot. Not long after, Aerophram began to harass and then attack Se7en, intimating that he was the reincarnation of Giorgioh. Despite flat denials, which were ignored or mocked by Aerophram and others, the attacks continued to escalate. The situation would soon turn quite ugly.

Meanwhile, in what must be the greatest coup to date, Freya, a founding member and then Nomarch of Iron Maiden, looted the vault, disbanded the dominion, and defected to the Riven. The surprising turn of events left the realm utterly shocked and placed the Shadows back in the top spot. As if to emphasize the point, it would be Freya who posted the next Riven seasonal announcement. Left in the cold, former Iron Maiden members Bobby Light and Bobzilla publicly criticized Freya for her actions. Bobzilla would take this too far, announcing the content of a telepath, making other highly derogatory comments, and allegedly sending numerous lewd telepaths. This left him beaten by Arthur (Shadows) and Jumsy (Eidolon) before finally being judged by Aerophram. Shortly after, Mullhotep (now Fiend) defected to the Riven as well, abandoning the Shadows. With four former Shadows among the six Riven, this reporter can’t help but wonder how many more Shadows might turn to the dark side.

Apparently unsatisfied with the destruction of Iron Maiden, the Riven begin a series of brutal invasions against the Imperial Conquest. When the bloodletting ended, Imperial Conquest had been defeated twelve times, lost five levels, and was now ranked below the Riven in the annals. The attacks passed without question or comment from the community. Whether this demonstrated apathy or contempt, this reporter will leave for you to decide. Back in the underworld the conflict over Se7en expanded. Disciples such as Akhom, Dijital, and Bobzilla were all attacked for aiding the alleged reincarnation. This would come to a head as Bobzilla joined the fledgling dominion of a days old disciple named Chessplayer. The newbie nomarch would twice reverse Aerophram’s attacks, and on the second instance found himself sundered for it. Some debate raged regarding attacks against new disciples and the use of “human shields”. Bobzilla was promptly ejected from Chessplayer’s dominion. Wish you’d taken the blue pill yet? Just wait. There’s more!

On Tybi, 18th at 21:29 Yipikaye (N: Macrocosm), rumored to be a reincarnation herself, slew Kauket. The killing of the Black Sphinx came hours before the Mikolaj (Riven) mandated acceptable time. Yipikaye, who had publicly supported the slaying-ban, quickly offered a public apology, accepted responsibility, and offered to make reparations to those who suffered for her error. Mikolaj promptly withered and doomed her to death. Case close? Nope. Yipikaye would go on to allegedly haggle over the terms of reparations. This would be followed by indigence from Aerophram who refused to accept that “clicking strike until you kill something” could be an accident, asking why she hadn’t fled instead. Tempers flared and heated rhetoric became the standard. until finally Folllowing messages by Yipikaye which called his accusations petty as well as citing the Encarta definition of a “mistake”, Aerophram claimed that he was about to “accidentally judge” her. While we leave it to you, dear reader, to determine the validity of the accidental nature of the act, the Riven nomarch did indeed judge Yipikaye. In a subsequent message, Aerophram quoted Yipikaye’s Encarta definition, bolding the sequential words “unfortunate act”, “caused”, and “judgment”. Other than that, it’s been quiet right? Not entirely…

Continued debate in the underworld raised questions about the role Bobzilla (now Montresor), an established Giorgioh advocate, played in the desecration of Arophram. Montresor, who had recently joined Macrocosm, answered these saying, “I believed, and still do, that EA is bad for this game. He basically has become gio with his "thralls".” The statement prompted Mikolaj to doom and Ruin him. Euplicitous followed this up with a negging, declaring that Montresor would remain in the underworld for a week for his part in the historic desecration. Ever his own worse enemy, Montresor responded by spamming the underworld with lewd and nonsensical posts until Aerophram ostracized him. The posts in question would then be silenced by Aerophram, Tully, Baltar, and even Se7en. With public opinion unanimously turned against Montresor, Macrocosm nomarch Yipikaye denounced the outburst, but declined to expel him.

While the dominoes are still falling, the “benevolent overlords” seem unassailable. The Riven are at peace, if not allied with, the top two active dominions while Em (Riven/Nekhen) works to “guide” Nekhen from within. The beleaguered remnants of Giorgioh’s empire are battered and bruised. Between defections, TOS violations, mob justice, and general disorganization they may be down for the count. What the future holds is uncertain but this reporter can’t help but recall Giorgioh’s claim of heralding in a “New Era”. Perhaps the era that began with the death of a disciple finally ended at 20:17 on Tybi 10th with the death of a dominion.

Due to various circumstances we missed updates to Top of the Game for the month of August, so there have been many changes. The most notable being the dissolution of Iron Maiden which opened the way for Shadows to become the new Ankhet Dominion. The only two players to retain their Ankhetship were Baltar (Shadows) and Euplicitous Aerophram (N: The Riven).
