Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

According to Bink, Soldier of Karakorum, he prematurely slew Kauket on 18 Mecheir 2757, “I'm very sorry to have inconvenienced all of you so badly again within such a short span of time,” he apologized. “I've no excuse, honestly, I don't. Just an explanation of what I was doing but a few moments ago.”

Sometimes it’s best to keep the explanation short and simple, but if he did, the matter might not have escalated as much as it had. Then again, knowing the disciples of Ankhet, it’s probably impossible not to have an escalation on any current political topic. This was no exception.

“Yes, I am aware that I am currently level 1,” said Bink. “The last tab I opened, the dominion tab, was to tithe my favour, and I did so,” added Bink. “When it loaded, there was no ‘in battle with Kauket’ going on, Kauket died on my second opened tab (tally). As such, I proceeded to tithe my favour as I had intended to, when I tithed the last of my favour, I was dead. I went to the homepage….”

More lies ensued. “I was pretty shocked, to say the least, and wondered why he killed me,” added Bink. So naturally, for me at least, I went back to one of my previous tabs to send him a telepath. To my dismay, I found my answer without as soon as I switched tabs.

Enter Coldplay, not at all amused, nor fooled by Bink’s explanation. “What is Karakorum planning on doing with your ill-gotten favor?” he asked.

Loyal to a fault, Bella rushed in, defending her dominion-mate. “Accidents happen Coldplay,” she proffered. “Bink went into detail describing what exactly happened and how the favour was tithered in a second window. Had he killed Kauket, and then switched over to tither right away it would be a different story.” The question is, did Bella just automatically defend Bink out of loyalty, or did she honestly believe his story at that point in time?

She further explained the situation. “His tither occurred at the exact same time he slew Kauket… I don’t see that as ill-gotten favour, but the result of an unfortunate accident, which he was open about and explained to the community.” Again, did Bella honestly believe what she was writing, or was this the beginning of an elaborate cover-up?

Dr. Gonzo was a non-believer. “I killed him the exact minute he offed Kauket, seems he was in a rush to me.”

“What it means is that the favor that would have been stripped from him was conveniently placed in your dominion,” said Coldplay. “So he killed Kauket and then quickly tithed in order to minimize the damage to him,” explained Coldplay. “That borders on ill-gotten in my books.”

Bella continued with her defense. “No… He accidently [sic] tithered as he killed Kauket. If it had been a rush to tither his favour after killing Kauket, the time of each action would be different,” she explained. “They are not.”

Coldplay pressed on. “So what are the times on the tithes?”

“No different then [sic] the time that Kauket was killed,” replied Bella. “Even if he had killed Kauket, realized it and then decided to tither, there would be at least a minute or so difference. There is not.”

“I can buy the story that he accidentally killed Kauket while attempting to tithe,” said Coldplay. “The unrealistic [sic] part of his story is that he finished tithing without realizing he had killed Kauket. That is not possible.”

Coldplay further argued the point. “Tabs don't click themselves,” he said. “If the fight with Kauket was started in tab one and he jumped to tab three that was already in his Dominion tab, if he had clicked tithe at that point then tab three would change to the Kauket fight and show that he had killed Kauket.”

Randomone next jumped into the argument. “Without a season change it would be difficult to test but I seem to remember that fights with her actually do click differently because she is a sphinx and when she is defeated it takes you to the sphinx screen instead of the next fight in a series of fights,” he explains.

“How it responds after you have killed her may be different, but how she responds during the fight is the same,” offered Coldplay. “If you are in a fight with Kauket and click on tithe then what you are trying to do will not work and you will strike and be taken back to the fight.”

Randomeone continued. “But what happens if you try to do something else after the monster is dead?” he asked. “You can click away from the combat tab after the creature is killed in the same way that you can click away from any other screen.”

“Ok, put like that it is possible,” said Coldplay. “Unlikely but possible. I still do not like how it conveniently allowed him to escape the severity of punishment that would normally have been used.”

Dr. Gonzo entered the scene. “What about attacking their dominion?” he asked. “Last night they were at level 71, I wake up and they are 84. Knowing he would be attacked, and that any favour reducing attack at his level would remove a much fatter chunk, I believe he tithed. This is an act we should not tolerate….”

“I confess that I am somewhat suspicious of Bink's conveniently-timed Tithing of all of his Favour,” said Baltar. “If Bink had intentionally Tithed all of his Favour before proclaiming his willingness to accept whatever punishment the community imposed, it would reflect poorly on his candor,” he added. Yet Baltar didn’t believe the tithed favour was ill-gotten.

“Maybe the gain ill-gotten was the dominion levels, Bink would have tithed less favour had he been subject to attack,” said Coldplay.

“I believe he knew that he had slain Kauket and was looking to preserve the favour,” said Aurum Astrum. “So while Karakorum gained 10 million favour, all of which was legitimately earned, as you outlined, some 1 to 2.5 million of it should have been forfeit as punishment for the early killing of Kauket.”

“So you think we should Ruin Bink next time he stocks up 26 mill? “ Dr. Gonzo asked Baltar. “As we know proof is nearly impossible to achieve, you cannot prove his explanation just as much as nobody can disprove it,” he said. “Words are words mate, people can say things they don't mean, things that aren't true; these would be called lies. And this would be something to lie about... “

Bristling at suggestions the dominion’s gain was ill-gotten, Bink said, “Last time I heard the term "ill-gotten favour", it was in reference to the favour obtained by a cheater. To my knowledge, I have in no way cheated.” He further defends himself by saying, “If your suggesting that titheing [sic] after killing Kauket, well, I have clearly stated that I was caught unaware of the fact that I even did kill Kauket at the time.”

A skeptical Euplicitous Aerophram piped in. “So, you wanted to top off your anima before tithing away all of your favour, thereby wasting said anima by lowering your max. That makes perfect sense.”

“I can stand to lose 4million favour and would not attempt to "cover my ass" over such an amount, nor any amount for that matter.,” said Bink. Coldplay disagreed. “Except you wouldn't lose 4 million, you'd lose maybe 20... I think How much would ruin take from a chap with 26M at level 90?”

Bink responded, “If I had 26million, then I wouldn’t [sic] know how much Ruin would take, a lot I assume. However as I had 9million (a bit more as killing kauket yielded [sic] greater favour than I intended), I believe the amount would have been considerably less.”

Circling in on Bink, Coldplay asked. “Your position is that you only tithed 9 million favor to your dominion today?”

Perturbed at this point in time, Euplicitous Aerophram remarked. “You see, while you were supposedly tithing away your favour in blissful ignorance, it still required 87 points of damage to kill you. Had your favour actually been tithed, your vitality would have reflected that. Had your death come as you attempted to tithe, the tithing would have failed to resolve. Either way, your story is unacceptably flawed.”

Coldplay continued to press on. “I'm not concerned about punishment or favor loss for Bink, you, or your dominion. Right now I'm concerned about what lying says about remorse.”

Jebe decided to attempt to clarify the issue by quoting dominion heralds. “06:24 - Bink has tithed 10000000 Favour to Karakorum.”

Coldplay was unsatisfied. “Show all tithes by Bink today or allow somebody like Baltar into your dominion to validate what you say is the truth,” he demanded.

“All that I require to drop this is a quick third party to audit what you say is truth and what I say is very poorly thought attempt to cover-up something,” Coldplay further demanded. “You've shown the 10 million entry. You were called on it and now claim you only quoted the big one. So where's the rest?”

Bink explained. “I Tithed 10 million Favour. As I did not have an Eye of Horus, I didn't know my specific amount, only a close approximation. That brought me down to level 42 with 92.5%. Knowing, off hand, that level 40 is {soilery} Favour, I simply typed in 400,000 which took me to level 1.”

Coldplay pressed on. “What I'm saying is that just like when you said you "accidentally" tithed when you killed Kauket you're full of crap, that unlike the aforementioned event this one is easily provable, and I've asked in good faith for you to allow somebody you trust into your dominion to verify the truth.”

Bella chimed in. “I stand behind everything Jebe has said; he is not lying. Some of you know I once went down the path of trying to cover things up for a dominion mate – let me tell you I would not make that mistake again.” The funny thing about Bella’s remark here is that Nefertiti claims she lied to Hey Clown because Bella told her to. Now Bella seems to be telling another story. What a tangled web we weave when we first attempt to deceive!

Continuing along with the deception theme, Euplicitous Aerophram said, “I think his [Bink’s] story about topping off his anima prior to massively de-leveling betrays his dishonesty. In short, I think he is a liar.”

Em’s personal interpretation of the events seemed to coincide with those who believed Bink to be a liar. 1 - saw he was being Doomed.
2 - saw he killed Kauket.
3 - realized the punishment for second time offenders was generally worse than for first time offenders.
4 - tithed the majority of his favour very quickly.

“Why do I think it happened like this?” Em asked. “Couple reasons. First of all, who fills up their anima prior to Tithing their favour and therefore lowering their anima max? Secondly, and perhaps more interestingly...timing.”

Fjord Taurus summed up the community’s feeling at this point in time. “This isn't about killing Kauket anymore. This is about lying to the community and falsifying evidence. I suggest you come clean now and let the charade end.”

Not wishing to allow Baltar in to view the heralds, Karakorum finally admitted Rhea into their dominion to verify the facts of what was tithed that fateful night. Rhea’s accounting was: 06:24 - Bink has tithed 314532 Favour to Karakorum.
06:24 - Bink has tithed 10000000 Favour to Karakorum.

Why did Jebe allow Rhea into the dominion? “I know her to be trustful, I have been in a Dominion with her before, as has Bella, as has Subutai,” he said. “Also she has no horse in this race, and is not a political player.”

Sadly enough, the eager to please Rhea allowed Bink to con her into lying to protect him.

Fjord was not convinced by Rhea’s statement. “Then silence your posts and invite Baltar in to confirm. If he verifies what you say, that it was only ten million and change then I will seriously be your dominion's slave for a week.”

He further added, “Bink says that his favor was slightly below 9 million before he begin visiting Kauket. Those visits allegedly resulted in him slightly exceeding nine million favor and killing Kauket for the rest of us. But Jebe quotes that exactly ten million favor was tithed. They then alter their story to make it so that Blink tithed ten million favor but still had enough left to land at level 42 and added another tithe event. They then convince Rhea to join their dominion and quote the new entries.”

Bink attempted to provide a screen shot, and Euplicitous Aerophram picked up an obvious forgery. “
3:14 – Jebe has given 8 x Red Vial to the vault.
6:24 – Jebe has tithed 15000000 Favour to Karakorum
3:14 – Bink has given 1 x Sphinx Down to the vault.”

Dab’s reaction mirrored that of others in the community. “So... I just wanna know how you feel about lying to the entire community, treating us like idiots and such, you know; that act you just pulled? Unedited, yes indeed!”

Pakhet remarked, “Interesting! How did that 6:24 get between those 3:14 do ya think?”

Bink conceded his error. “6:24 – Jebe has tithed 15000000 Favour to Karakorum
Was a falsified entry, obviously. It was done by me and me alone of course. I merly [sic] changed the name and moved Jebe's the entry down. Silly lil me,” he said.

“Stack all the entries together, in their correct sorting (and without the obvious edit) and such and you have:

6:24 – Bink has tithed 314532 Favour to Karakorum
6:24 – Bink has tithed 10000000 Favour to Karakorum
6:24 – Bink has tithed 15000000 Favour to Karakorum

Total favour of 25,314,532 tithed.”

Bink defended his dominion mates as well. “Regarding my dominion mates, what they've said and posted, etc. They told all of you the truth, granted, not the whole truth, but nevertheless, the truth,” thus proving that members of Karakorum are not to be trusted.

Oh What a Tangled Web We Weave, When First We Practice to Deceive.

Fjord Torus’ final response? “Are you sure the number you're looking for in your sincere, final, undoctored apology wasn't 26,562,065?”

Rhea explained her actions to the community, apologizing as she did so. “Once I was invited in Bink said that I had seen the logs and this is what I was to say. I just wanted it to finish so I went with the story,” she explained. “I am sorry for what happened but I felt like I was caught up in the storm and it was the only way I coud see out. Once again I apologise to the whole community for my stupidity.”
