Taking off the Kid Gloves

Found only in the Burning Season, the Blood Merchant offers several unique trades and the option of dueling him. If killed, he's gone until the next Burning Season. Understandably, people can get pretty vexed when he's killed early in the season; especially without permission. In close to her third week of Ankhet, Zianna was revealed by the heralds to have attempted to kill the Blood Merchant on 10 Phamenoth. Shortly thereafter she proceeded to post announcement #1243. Taking umbrage with the attitude of the announcement, Bella sent Zianna to the Underworld and asked for an apology. Further attempts to remedy the situation by Zianna led to it spiraling out of control and she ended up succumbing to Ennui on 11 Phamenoth. A recent example of a similar situation: Leonidas was killed by Euplicitous Aerophram for the attitude behind his announcement posted after slaying Em in a duel. Leonidas, now Lorzhan, is still with us here in Ankhet. This reporter asks, "Should people be treated with kid gloves in fear of them leaving, or should they just be let out of the kitchen?"

Module Six

On 20 Mecheir, The Oracle of Thebes dropped a set of teasers into the System Alerts thread. Soon to be followed by another set on 1 Phamenoth, these teasers promise deadly new enemies to face, new areas to uncover, and steady progress towards a climactic battle between Good and Evil among other exciting things. One disciple, Malarthi Behemoth, has made a topic titled "Choosing Sides" in the Halls of Initiation asking which side disciples intend to join as soon as Mod 6 is implemented. This reporter is especially thrilled about the Mark of the Lotus, some new content involving the Ogdoad, and the new criosphinx, Amunet. Hopefully this Amunet will cause just as much controversy as our last new sphinx, Kauket. Perhaps Fetket will take a larger role in Ankhet besides converting our Lotus Buds into Potions.

An Article on Altair

First I must apologize to Altair (who I affectionately refer to as Booga-Booga Pookie-Pookie) for my taking so long to write this article. But alas, here it is!

"Don't take the game so seriously. Just have fun." These are the words Altair wishes to impart on TAG readers and the Ankhet community. Having played the game for some time and never afraid to be vocal with his opinions, Altair has seen his fair share of conflicts and drama.

I first encountered Altair when I came back to Ankhet reincarnated under the name sconosciuto and re-joined the Light dominion. Through his – and the rest of Light's – help, I was able to grasp the game, and remain here today. Thus, I do credit Altair as playing a part in my being the disciple I am today.

In Altair's own words, when he first started playing he was "kind of a jerk" and "didn't much care about using English the proper way, and was even more prone to derailing one-liners." He went on to also explain that he, "mooched off of [his] first dominion, Light, particularly its Nomarch, ChipDoc." But, Altair is quick to explain that his playing style has definitely changed. According to him, his style first started to change when the members of Light threatened to kick him out of the dominion. However, it wasn't until conversations with em, that Altair reached a turning point in his Ankhet-life. According to him, "em really made me think about how I played the game and the message I was sending to everyone else. I really began to make an effort to type clearly and think about what I was saying. After my time on Menthu, I joined eidolon, and now I'm the fine upstanding disciple you're speaking to today."

In terms of Philosophy, Altair isn't sure he has one, and "basically [does] whatever [he] thinks is right and still keeps Ankhet fun for [him]. He also claims, "I don't know what we can expect from me in the future. I expect I'll keep saying funny things and keep on losing anima from posting. I'll probably be involved in some sort of conflicts in the future, or maybe not." And then slyly adds. "I'm very mysterious."

Altair thinks the environment in Ankhet has its good and bad points. He feels that "It has some disciples that obviously dominate things and can basically do whatever they want. For the most part, they do both good and bad things, and it's usually a pretty good mix of both. I think we need certain kinds of disciples to keep the game moving. We need players to like, players to laugh at, and players to hate." He also gets more specific and personal by adding, "If we didn't have people like Anubulas or EA, the game would be boring. I, for one, wouldn't play."

But he does think that overall, this is a good environment for the community. Oddly enough Altair claims, "Some players get lost and quit from being attacked, but them getting attacked and leaving makes the game better, weird as it is to say," and then adds "some people have to suffer to keep Ankhet interesting for everyone."

When asked if he thinks there is inequality in Ankhet, he responded with "Of course there is. In a game like Ankhet, there can't not be inequality." However, he thinks that "Inequality is good. There have to be some players who are level 100 and spend more time on leveling and getting artifacts than other players. And there have to be disciples who don't. That's just how things work."

However, Altair isn't a fan of the posting rewards/punishment system that is in place. He states, "I don't think I should lose my anima because I don't want to write an essay for every post, especially when most of them only require a couple sentences."

He also won't label himself as either a spike or a fluffy, and sees himself as "whatever the situation calls for." Going off his own words, if someone needs to be attacked, he will do it, but if he thinks there needs to be a peaceful discussion, he'll work for that too. But he adds, "there definitely needs to be a balance between the two. If everyone sits around and fluffs their fluff, the game will be boring, but if everyone attacks whoever they feel like whenever they want to, nobody could accomplish anything."

Altair feels that Ankhet politics are silly, because "99% of the time it's people who don't like each other talking about how dumb the other one is and how their points make no sense and that they should feel inferior."

The following is how Altair sees himself in relation to the game, "I'm just a guy trying to get by and have fun. If I can spread love and joy and equality as much as possible, that's cool too. I'm not out to change the game, just to show people how awesome I am and how the game should be played. If they want to follow my example, more power to them."

In terms of the Quill and Dagger, Altair was quick to exclaim "I love the people there. While we've lost some original members, we're still going strong and having fun." He explains that he "also thought that Light was kind of dead on its feet" and adds "I guess I was wrong about that. I think it's great how much they've grown and returned Light to its former glory."

However for those disciples curious about the inner workings of the QD, Altair claims their mission statement is "top secret but it's totally awesome." Then asks readers to trust him on that. Altair also says that Quill and Dagger 'is a very secretive and mysterious group," but one that means a lot to him.

Altair's favourite path is a toss up between Atum or Anubis. He feels that, "Atum can do a lot of things well" but that "Anubis is the King of Paths" he also adds that" Soulrift is barrels of fun."
