(Bloody) Murder They Wrote
By: The Eye

In the wake of intense fighting between Coelacanth and the Shadows alliance, the fate of repeat desecrator Miraj Adham Fathi remained uncertain. And that was before things got confusing. With an uneasy ceasefire in place, Coelacanth made known his intention to intern Miraj in the underworld until the latter agreed to abandon the path of Hathor. Several days later, and with no signs of progress, Akhenuraeus (Shadows) made an executive decision. He cast Judgment on Miraj, stripping him of path, favour, and releasing him from the Underworld. One might have expected the story to end there. One would have been pretty wrong. Miraj quickly squandered this opportunity by rejoining the path of Hathor. Further, Coelacanth, apparently offended by the intrusion on his negotiations, railed against both Akhenuraeus and the Shadows dominion. The conversation took a southerly turn in a big hurry. The discussion went from insults, to political grandstanding, to accusations of trolling. For a time it seemed as if Miraj and the desecration had been somehow forgotten in the mix. Ultimately Coelacanth peevishly “washed his hands” of Miraj, a burden accepted only grudging by Akhenuraeus. In one of his rare forays into the forums, Miraj indicated that he would not capitulate, insinuating that his will would break that of his captors. With voices of dissent at his handling gaining volume and intermittent conflict among his wardens, what will happen next is anyone’s guess.

Stalemate

Two weeks have passed since the Desecration of Mrs. Dolly Levi Gallagher, formerly Illuminati666, and nothing seems to have been resolved. Dolly had a bit of a track record for disregarding the Terms of Service, and as a result upset many Disciples. In her most recent “crime,” Dolly created a multi, or a zombie, in order to retrieve her (rather lengthy) character name, which she claimed she had forgotten. It was understandable to some, but to many it was just another example of her general indifference towards the ToS. A disciple by the name of Miraj Adham Fathi decided to take action against her, and at 17:20 on 3 Thoth, 2756 Desecrated the dead body of Dolly. Although such an action is generally abhorred in Ankhet, this situation met with some support. Very little action was actually taken against Miraj, but at 18:59 of the same day, Coelacanth declared that he would no longer stand for what seemed to be such frivolous use of a severe ability. This was Miraj’s second offense, for on 11 Epeiph, 2755, he Desecrated reign. Both situations are quite similar, as the target had broken an important rule that had been set, and in both situations Miraj left little to no explanation for his actions. Coelacanth has since seen to it that Miraj not be allowed to reach Desecrate ever again, primarily by keeping him exhausted, confined to the underworld. Others have also pitched in, by killing Miraj, negging him, or reducing his favour. Negotiations have been progressing in the underworld forum, but not much has truly been accomplished. No one truly cares what level Miraj reaches, so long as he isn’t on the path of Hathor. However, Miraj has refused to change paths, and has participated little in the topic regarding his confinement. Akhenuraeus offered up an alternative: submit Miraj to the Judgment of the god Amin-Ra. If Ra deemed Miraj worthy, he would be reincarnated, with his stats forcibly reset to the way they were when he first became a disciple. It worked, and Miraj was returned to level 1, stripped of all Favour Wisdom, and any other accumulated stats. Miraj refused to comply, though, and returned to Hathor as soon as he hit level 5. Now negotiations are breaking down, and the mudslinging has began. At this point it looks like all Miraj has to do is bide his time, and wait for Coelacanth to focus on other things. Based on previous actions, however, it doesn’t appear that this will happen anytime soon. The Judgment failed to fix the “stalemate,” and no one has come up with any other solution. The situation as we know it is in limbo, with no side showing any sign of yielding.

Who'll Stop the Rain?

The Deluge section of Mod 3 is officially out! On 11 Thoth at 2:59, the wonderful Oracle of Thebes announced that part 1 of The Deluge Mod 3 was live. This brought the Brass City. Not much is known about this mysterious place, mostly due to the fact that in order to access it you have to pay 3 million favour for the Key. Some confirmed parts of the City are the ability to fight Hazikiman, Almothi, and Tey, and possibly other djinn as well. Also, new artifacts are floating around, one of which is the Dao Belt.

On the very same day at 17:13, Thebes announced that Deluge Mod 3 was fully installed. The major section of this update is the Distant Floodplain. Found through exploring the Eastern Desert, as the Bazaar was, the Floodplain allows you to answer questions from Heirocosphinx-like creatures, called Dracosphinxes. These monstrosities are half-crocodile and half-sphinx, and they give you anima for a correct answer to their enigmas. However, if you get their enigma wrong, you’ll have a fight on your hands.

Two more major changes were made during this exciting time. Atum has a new challenge. He wants animal crests. So far, no one has publicly admitted that they’ve passed this test, even though they’re sure they have all the crests possible. The game’s most powerful players are baffled by Atum’s newest task, although they’re sure to figure it out eventually. Many disciples are even clueless as to where animal crests are found. The final drastic change was the addition of another Annals spot. This spot is for Truth Sayers, and like the Beast Slayers list, it can only be reached during a specific season. In order to be a Truth Sayer, the season must be Deluge, and you then have to find where the challenge of Saying Truth is. As of 17 Thoth, em is sitting atom this list with 57 truths said.

A slew of minor updates were also added. Among them are the ability for Nomarchs and the Oracles to sticky important topics, the rank of Daemon for disciples that are at level 80, an inventory up date, and this reporter’s personal favorite, an “are you sure” for using Lotus Potions in combat. With the Deluge Mod 3 out, the Burning season is up next. On 13 Thoth, Thebes released a teaser for this next part of Mod 3. Some memorable tidbits from the teaser include: “… a season of carnage will follow. Those who slay their fellows will prosper and dominions will tremble.” and “As you emerge from one of these clouds you find yourself standing face to face with a grotesquely deformed creature that may have once been human. His smile, a misshapen thing that bares his dagger-like teeth and blackened gums, leaves you queasy. “Welcome,” it says, drooling. “You can be the next to kneel before my master. Now kneel, slave!””

It appears that there may be some demonic new gods to follow, and that things may not be so peaceful in the land of Ankhet anymore. The entire dominion is buzzing in anticipation for the next part of Mod 3. After all the wonderful things the Deluge section brought, Burning may not be so nice, but it will be fun.

A Spoilerific Puzzle!
By: The Eye

When the Gazette came back online the Oracles promised us exclusive material and they delivered. In their typical fashion, however, it’s a bit cryptic. Here’s a breakdown of what they shared. There are 11 animal crests to be found in the Floodplain. Here’s the puzzle:

One is very rare.
Two deal with damage.
Two deal with Potency.
One deals with your Anima max.
One deals with Condemn.
One deals with Gauntlet Favor.
One deals with Duel Favour.
One deals with Sphinx Anima.
One deals with Resting.
One can’t be gotten without “making a nice pair of boots or maybe a wallet”.
And one is top secret.

Because they seem unable to resist teasing us, we were also given the name of an action from an “as of yet unwalked” path. While it’s just a name, the implications are pretty interesting. The name? “Summon”. I don’t know about you, but this reporter likes the sound of that.

Ask Miss Mummy
Dear Miss Mummy,
Sometimes when I try to find the Floodplain, it’s gone! What’s happening!?
Signed,
Lost in Space

Don’t be alarmed, Lost. The Floodplain, along with most of the newest stuff, is a seasonal quest. It’s only available during the Deluge. It’s replaced during the Reaping by the Nomads Bazaar (we like to think the floodplain dry up). From now on, take a moment to notice what season we’re in!

Tip of the Week
The Dominion vault is an invaluable resource. Dominion members can win access by repelling the Heathen Invasion, found in the Dominion menu. Once you have access, you can store any moveable artifact in it. This is a great way to build trade fodder for Selket without having to sacrifice your equipment. Put a scarab in, get a replacement, and trade it away! Just remember to be courteous. Don’t take something from the vault without checking with your friends first!

Top of the Game
Here is the list of Ankhets as of 17 Thoth, 2756 (Bold indicates a change from the previous issue)
Ahmose: Yage (34, Eidolon)
Amin-Ra: Akhenuraeus (64, Shadows)
Ammut: Emau (40)
Anubis: Mummio (29, Iron Maiden)
Bast: Smooth_Pappa (49, Eidolon)
Hathor: Mullhotep (72, Shadows)
Menthu: Coelacanth (64)
Sekhmet: Flor Venenosa (80, Iron Maiden)
Thoth: Parislan (50, Shadows)
Dominion: Shadows (108,750,003)
Beast Slayers: Ozymandias (37)
Truth Sayers: Em (57)

While the Selket merchant and frequent seasonal changes continue to have some effect, the field has stabilized considerably. It is a testament to the allure of the new favour items that the Shadows dominion has gained only 5 thousand Favour since the last issue. Recent abdications have lowered the bar for the neglected path of Anubis and the current Ankhet of Ahmose is inactive. Both seats are easy marks. We also have a new category based on a seasonal encounter in the Library of Ahmose for those looking to get their name in the bold.
